The Portland Humanist Film Fest Staff would like to extend a warm “thank you” to everyone who attended the event! Your presence made our first festival a huge success! It was a great time, with both fun and poignant moments, laughter and tears. You were a wonderful audience.
We had an extraordinary cast of twenty volunteers for the festival as well. From distributing posters and flyers, selling raffle tickets, and handing out programs, to running the projectors and moving furniture, their enthusiasm was contagious, and very much appreciated! Thank you all!!
We have some sponsors who came on late and were never mentioned here. I would like to take the opportunity to do so now.
Thank you to Vinnie's Pizza of Portland, an authentic Italian family-owned and operated business serving the Portland community since 1994. “We take pride in producing the finest pizza and calzones in North Portland,” (and they do!). They sponsored the highly popular Lewis Black comedy segments we enjoyed over the weekend!
Thanks to the Northwest Free-thought Alliance, supported by the Northwest Free-thought Coalition (NWFC). They would like you to know that they are hosting a regional conference at Portland State University, March 25, 26, and 27, 2011. We appreciate their support of our event, and we are looking forward to theirs! The keynote speaker will be well known biologist and blogger PZ Myers!
We are grateful for the support of Old Wives' Tales, a Portland restaurant offering a multi-ethnic menu of vegetarian, chicken and seafood dishes since 1980. The restaurant is famous for its incredible (trust me on this!) Hungarian Mushroom Soup, and its convenient (trust me on this, too!) Children's Playroom.
A big thank you to Cinema 21. This theater is an historical relic of Portland, well placed in the Northwest heart of the city. The old-fashioned theater features many unique movies, including foreign art films and controversial documentaries. We appreciate their support!
And we thank Living Room Theaters for their support. Living Room Theaters is a “new evolution” of cinema (hence, perfect sponsors for our event!). Their sophisticated yet superbly comfortable environment combines a European style café and lounge with a relaxing place to see wonderful movies.
We extend our appreciation also to the film producers and directors who made themselves available for questions following their films; Dennis Lavery and Karen DiMilia for In the Shadow of the Temple, Adrienne LeVerette, Eric Schopmeyer and Rob Tyler for A Thing of Wonder. Your input was insightful and enriching.
Well, our First Annual PHFF is now history. I had SUCH a good time! I made new friends (a lot of new friends!) and learned new things about Charles Darwin, about the three groups which were underwriters for the festival, (Center for Inquiry, Freethinkers of PSU, and Humanists of Greater Portland) and about myself as a human being. I hope you all had as good a time as I did. Peace and out, friends!
Marie
